Cheap 'n easy - the lady herself

I figured I'd best introduce myself. I'm Sietske, but you may call me cheap, or cheap 'n easy. Now don't call me just easy, because I'm not that kinda girl. Easygoing, sure. Easy, nah.

Life has thrown me the fair share of curve balls. I don't mind, since I just go with the flow.. Life is too complicated to complicate my life any further.

In December 2011 myself and Mr.Cheap got custody of his four-year-old and in January 2012 our other son was born. Then I hit the big 3-0 last summer. In October I had to stop working.. So in less than a year my whole life got turned upside down. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but it sure has made me look for cheap 'n easy more than ever.

Now a few months later I am growing vegetables in the backyard and I am in the process of building a chicken coop for a half a dozen hens. I'm working some from home as a freelance graphic artist and it seems I am adding blogger to my resume as well.

We're living the life; finding the beauty in simplified, pure living.

Just as many other have had to do.

Cheap 'n easy cooking - Baja fish taco's

I needed a quick lunch today, before Mr.Cheap would go to work. As I was rummaging through my freezer, I found a bag of whiting fillets with a recipe on the bag for fish taco's. I didn't follow their recipe at all, but it did inspire me to make these babies.

They were so delicious I promptly forgot to take a picture. Oops. Haha. Well, all the more reason to make them again, right?

Cheap 'n easy gardening - paving

I dislike anything that takes a lot of preparation. That and things that cost too much. And to top that off, I want value, ya know, quality for a reasonable price.

Well, as I have been searching stores for ages to find something to use for all the paths and a patio I intend to create sooner rather than later. Sure, there are the grey concrete squares, but they're so.. blah. I may be cheap 'n easy, but even I do not like blah. But, then I found it! What is "it"? Quikrete Walk Maker. I had seen it before in the store, but disregarded it, not wanting to deal with the hassle of pouring my own concrete and having to wait between each use. However, I got a closer look and I realized I would NOT have to wait for the concrete to set. You fill it, smooth it, pull the mold of and lather, rinse, repeat. I fell in love..
